History

Zainab is the feisty, and some would say stroppy owner of a chain of Post Offices, including the one in Walford where she employs her daughter Shabnam. She's not one to make friends easily, and has already put a number of noses out of joint already in Walford.

2007

Feud with the Wicks

Zainab wasted no time on her arrival by making an enemy of her employee, Denise Wicks. This was compounded by Zainab's purchasing of 41 Albert Square, Denise's so-called Dream House. The feud continued once the rest of the family arrived in the Square, but things went quiet on this front following Kevin's death and Denise's temporary departure from the Square.

2008

Money Troubles

Zainab isn't good with money and seems to have little business acumen, despite what everyone else might think. Her chain of Post Offices are heavily in debt, failing to pay their way and it seems likely that she's going to lose the lot eventually.

Matchmaker from hell

Zainab is fiercely proud of her family, and saw an opportunity to try and set up some romance, and probably an arranged marriage with Jalil Iqbal, a.k.a. Jalil the Geek from Shabnam's youth. Zainab went as far as to arrange a romantic meal for Shabnam and Jalil but spied on them courtesy of a baby monitor which she listened on from the safety of the Gardens in the middle of the Square.

Zainab learned that Jalil is already in a relationship. This did not deter Zainab though as she still put the pressure on Jalil (after seeing the picture of his girlfriend she charmingly referred to her as 'a moose of a girlfriend'). Zainab tried again with another family meal to get Shabs with Jalil, but threw Jalil out when she decided Jalil was no longer husband-material.
