Wife of Terry Bates who stood trial along with several others for the murder of Jase Dyer.
Viv turned up in Walford and we first saw her in the cafe drinking tea and Billy Mitchell accidentally banged into her knocking her tea all over the place. He bought her a new one but declines her offer to join her. She asked if he is local, Billy replied yes before heading out of the cafe.
Later Billy was seen in the Vic chatting to a drunk Shirley Carter when he noticed Viv again. Viv tried unsuccessfully to chat him up. After a few drinks with Viv, Billy left and headed upstairs in the Queen Vic. Viv then introduced herself to him, and said that Billy he had better not give evidence or Jase's kid Jay Brown would be harmed and he would also be harmed if their conversation comes to light.
Viv's sole intention on visiting Walford was to stop Billy Mitchell giving evidence against her husband Terry Bates. She very nearly succeeded as she got Bird and the rest of the gang to hold Jay Brown hostage in Garry and Dawn's flat. Billy of course went looking for Jay and refused to go to court without him. When Billy found out where Jay was he went to get help from Phil Mitchell but Phil was so drunk he could barely stand let alone knock a door down.
Realising this, Billy made sure that Dawn Swann, Garry Hobbs and Minty Peterson took Phil back to the pub. Billy called the Police, advised them that there was about to be a fight, before knocking the door of 3a Albert Square down. A fight then ensued before the Police turned up.
Just as if it looked as if Billy wasn't going to make it to court, he appeared to give his evidence. As a result of his evidence Terry was given life imprisonment.
Viv was last seen in Terry's cell, when he told her to 'get Bird'. Viv told Terry she was not going to do his dirty work anymore and had had enough. She then walked out his cell and has refused to have anything to do with him ever since.
