Notable storylines

46 Albert Square is The Queen Victoria pub and has been the scene of many a fight and a storyline over the years.

Owners

Den and Angie

At the start of EastEnders in 1985 the brewery owned the pub and it was managed by Den Watts and Angie Watts.

In 1986 Angie lied to Den telling him that she only had six months to live. Den was initially sceptical about this, but eventually accepted it as the truth, begged her forgiveness for all the sins he'd committed and promised to be there for her. He booked them a second honeymoon to Venice on the Orient Express.

On returning home Den heard Angie admit that she had faked her illness to stop Den from leaving her. The result of this was the infamous Christmas Day episode in 1986 which saw Den serve Angie divorce papers with the words "Merry Christmas Ang". This episode was watched by more than 30 million viewers in the UK.

Pat and Frank

After managing the pub for 2 years, Den handed over the lease to Pat and Frank. They remained in control for 2 years before passing the controls over to Eddie Royle.

Eddie Royle

Eddie was the least popular landlord of the Queen Vic at one time trying to get together with Sharon Watts. That was in 1991 and Sharon rejected him. When Grant Mitchell found out he turned violent and beat up Eddie so badly that he needed brain surgery. Eddie couldn't forgive Grant for this and when he found out Sharon and Grant were marrying, he sacked Sharon and changed the name of the Queen Vic to The Victoria Tavern, a name change that was not popular with the locals at all! Sharon won a case when she took Eddie to an unfair dismissal tribunal but was still not reinstated.

In September 1991, Eddie took his poodle Roly for a walk when he came across Nick Cotton on a robbery. In order to silence Eddie, Nick stabbed him to death. However the outcome at Nick's trial was 'not guilty' as it was felt that there was insufficient evidence to convict him.

Sharon

Sharon was the next owner of the Queen Vic. She stayed there for 3 years with husband Grant until their marriage collapsed. The Queen Vic was then sold to Peggy Mitchell.

Peggy

Peggy ran the pub with Frank Butcher until early 2001 at which point she was forced to sell after he did a runner and left her penniless.

Sharon, again

Peggy was shocked when Sharon returned as the new owner of The Vic along with new co-owner Steve Owen. Steve later sold his share to Phil Mitchell and in 2002 Sharon sold her share back to the Mitchells.

Alfie

It was then that Alfie Moon became the manager of the bar after he tricked Peggy into thinking he was Chris Wright! Alfie was manageed the pub for around 2 years before Den Watts tricked his way back into the Queen Vic.

The Mitchells, again

Shortly before she killed her husband in 2005, Chrissie Watts forged Den's signature on a deed of transfer and 'sold' the Queen Vic to Ian Beale. However, after Chrissie admitted to forging Den's signature, the sale was nullified and the pubs ownership reverted back to Sharon who should have inherited it on Den's death. Sharon then handed the pub back again to the Mitchells and Peggy is the current licensee.

Archie's plot to get the Vic

In late 2009, to get out of debt, Phil sold the rights to own the vic to Ian Beale after Ian loans Phil some money. However, that didn't last long due to Ian sleeping with Janine Butcher and unknown to him, she recorded it, which she then used to blackmail Ian into giving the rights to own the Vic to Archie Mitchell, leaving the rest of the Mitchell's, homeless. The change of ownership upset the locals, therefore attracting no customers.

Archie is murdered in the pub on Christmas Day 2009 and the pub was closed while the police investigated.

The pub was then put up for sale. However, in January 2010, it is revealed that in his will, Archie left the Vic and the rest of his estate to his daughter, Roxy Mitchell.

Roxy

Roxy got the Vic from her father in his will, as soon as the vic was open she did a major reshuffle of staff so the Vic would appeal to younger punters, she fired Tracy, put Peggy doing work out back and hired Chelsea Fox and Christian Clarke, she also put music on full blast.
