Summary
Syd first appeared with her dog Sugar to return Bradley Branning's dog Gumbo who had earlier gone missing. Bradley invited her in for a cup of tea and got her phone number. Bradley finally plucked up the courage to call her a month later, and they had a meal together which was interrupted by Bradley's ex-wife, Stacey Slater. Syd later moved to the flat above the bookies and began dating Bradley. When Bradley admitted to her that he was unemployed, she said she liked his honesty and kissed him, cemeting their relationship. However, Syd disappeared and Bradley thought she had lost interest in him. She told him that she was busy with her job as a nurse, and to reassure him she gave him a rose and slept with him. Afterwards, she finished with him and Bradley planned to move to Edinburgh after seeing another man leaving Syd's flat. When Syd heard that Bradley was planning to move away, she introduced him to her son, Noah (the man leaving the flat had been a babysitter).
Syd then disappeared for a while and Bradley feared she'd lost interest in him. When she did reappear she reassured Bradley that she had been simply busy with work and went with him to visit Dot Branning about her insomnia. Bradley remained unconvinced about her feelings for him so to try and reassure him, Syd slept with him but then finished with him. After seeing a man leave her flat Bradley became convinced that something else was going on and made plans to move to Edinburgh to get away from everything. When she heard this, Syd rushed around to Bradley's telling him to come to her house that night instead of going to Edinburgh, where she would reveal all. Bradley gave up on Edinburgh and went to see Syd where he was introduced to her son Noah. The man leaving the flat had been the babysitter.
Bradley was later involved in a siege and fire involving Nick Cotton in Kathy's café. When Max asked Syd to visit Bradley in hospital, she declined, but later relented when Noah made a get well card for Bradley. Syd was later offered a job in Canada, and Bradley decided to go with her despite Stacey telling him she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder at his leaving party. As Syd, Bradley and Noah were leaving Walford, Stacey was being sectioned, and calling Bradley's name as she was taken to the police car. They left Walford in October 2009, but returned in December when Bradley's mother, Rachel was in a car crash. While back in Britain, Bradley fell in love with Stacey again, and Syd and Noah went back to Canada without him.
