Summary
Son of Cindy and Simon Wicks, Steven had been raised believing he was Ian's son. Following his unmasking as the author of The Poison Pen Letters, Steven discovered the truth about his parentage, and went to New Zealand to live with his dad Simon Wicks.
His return to Walford
In 2007, Ian was tormented by tricks supposedly perpetrated by his first wife, which culminated in the revelation of Steven's return when he locked Ian in an abandoned flat for several weeks. Upon Steven's return to the flat, with Lucy, a struggled resulted in Steven unintentionally shooting Jane.
Ian immediately secured a place for Steven in a friend's mental institution, from which his Nana Pat released him.
Attempted suicide
When he came to stay with Pat he formed a friendship with Stacey Slater, who stopped him from committing suicide in December 2007 because he was annoyed that his dad was rejecting him. Despite hostilities from Jane, Steven gradually regained Ian's trust, and over Christmas 2007, Ian welcomed Steven back into his home as part of the Beale family.
Events leading up to his exit
The build up to Steven's exit involved him in a bisexual love triangle storyline between him, Stacey Slater and Christian Clarke. Steven and Stacey's friendship progressed into something more serious in March 2008, when they shared a kiss and later Steven decided he was ready to lose his virginity to Stacey.
However, Steven was unable to consummate his love for Stacey, and after an emotional rant, he kissed Christian. After this Christian knew something was up and at every opportunity tried to "out him". Eventually Steven told the truth to Stacey.
Afterwards Steven falsely claimed to Ian that Christian had attempted to seduce him, in revenge for Christian rejecting him, which led to Christian being kicked out of the house by Ian.
His Exit
In May 2008, it was revealed he was hiding his half sister Lucy Beale in a caravan after she had a fight with her dad. During the time that she has been in the caravan, Steven had been poisoning her mind against Ian to think that life was going on as normal and nobody cared about her so that she would flee the country.
His plan was discovered by Pat Evans which led Steven to attempt to suffocate her so that she wouldn't tell anyone the truth.
Ian eventually found out the truth and chased Steven to London's St Pancras Station where Lucy was waiting for him to board the Eurostar to Paris. After a brief chase, Ian caught up with Steven and Lucy.
Lucy at first doesn't want to go back home with her dad, but eventually she does to the dismay of Steven.
In Steven's final scenes, Ian rejects Steven as his son once again, telling him "I never give up on my family. But you're not my family, are you? You're your mother's son and you're Simon's son, and that really used to hurt. Now I thank God I never produced anything as sick and twisted as you."
Steven then departed from Walford after Ian vowed to kill him if he ever saw him again.
