Summary

The "brassy former wife" of Kevin Wicks, and mother to Jimbo, Deano and Carly. They hadn't seen each other in years, but were, unexpectedly to Kev, reunited when the Wicks, Foxes and Truemans took a holiday to Devon.

She then followed the family back to Walford, where she shook up the comfortable family, revealed that Kevin wasn't Deano and Carly's father, got a job at the Vic, and a place of her own, 89 George St.

Her attempts to bond with her children have failed, although moreso with Deano than Carly.

Friendship with Heather

Shirley has a good relationship with Heather Trott and whenever Heather gets down, Shirley is always there to pick up the pieces or to stand up for her when people comment about her weight.

In May 2009 when Heather found out she was pregnant and that Shirley going out with Phil, Heather decided she should move out of the flar she shared with Shirley.

Relationship with Kevin and her children

Years ago she was married to Kevin Wicks and had three children with him, James (nicknamed Jimbo and who died in his teens), Deano Wicks and Carly Wicks. She left Kevin and the children when they were young and did not see them again until December 2006 when Deano and Carly hitched a lift with her in Dorset, not knowing who she was at the time. Shirley was going to tell them who she was but Kevin found out and forbid her from seeing them again.

Even after the threat she still followed them back to Walford in January 2007 and told Carly and Deano who she was. Carly immediatly disliked her, but Deano less so.

Later on Shirley revealed to Kevin and her children that he was not the father of Deano or Carly, which made Carly reject Kevin. Kevin was upset and Shirley was there for him and the two ended up sleeping together even though Kevin was in a relationship with Denise Fox, through guilt Kevin proposed to Denise.

Shirley tried to ruin their wedding by confessing to Denise that they had slept together, even so, Denise still went ahead and married Kevin after kicking him in the testicles.

In October 2007 Deano turned to Shirley for support when he was charged for framing Sean Slater for attempted murder. Shirley encouraged him to flee Walford before his court case, but Deano decided to face up to what he had done and he attended the trial and was imprisoned for 6 months. Shirley turned up late for the hearing as she was hit by Vinnie Monks' car.

In December 2007 Shirley found out that Kevin had been selling cut-and-shut cars and threatened Kevin that she would inform the police if he didn't stop. When Kevin failed to do this, Shirley confronted him while he was trying to steal a dangerous cut-and-shut car that had accidentally been sold to Yolande Trueman. Unable to get rid of Shirley, Kevin threw her into the car, his plan being to take it to a junkyard; however, the car was short on petrol and they didn't get to their destination, so Kevin and Shirley decided to race the car and then set it alight, making it look like the work of joyriding vandals. In the process of getting rid of the car Kevin and Shirley were involved in an accident were Kevin was impaled on a metal rod, dying in Shirley's arms.

Kevin's death affected Carly most of all and she told Shirley that she wished it was Shirley that who had died in the car. Carly continued to reject offers of support from her mother until she left Walford to go travelling in January 2009.

Deano returned to the Square in February 2009, his prison stay had affected him and now resented his mother. He attacked Shirley, saying she was responsible for everything bad that had happened to him and then left Walford for good.

Relationship with Phil

In March 2008, Shirley became interested in her boss Phil Mitchell because of Ben Mitchell's matchmaking, which made Shirley turn up for work late as she started drinking lots of alcohol which made Phil concerned for her welfare. He later found her unconscious after drinking a lot and took her to hospial to get checked out. Shirley then revealed that she had recently found a lump in her breast and thought it may be cancerous.

Phile was supportive and made Shirley to suspect he was attracted to her; however, he avoided her advances so Shirley decided to get back together with Vinnie Monks instead.

Weeks after she got checked, she still hadn't found out whether it was cancer or not as she couldn't bring herself to get the results. Eventually Phil forced her to and to Shirley's relief, her lump was benign.

On July 2008, Shirley missed Vinnie's birthday party when she took Ben to the community centre for him to compete in a dancing competition as Phil refused to do this. But this was in the way of her relationship with Vinnie as he found out about this and knowing that she only had feelings for Phil. Due to this he threw her out of the house.

On 28 November 2008 Shirley and Phil slept with each other but Phil told her it was a mistake afterwards.

On 14 April 2009 Phil fell off the wagon and started drinking again, the next day so Ben wouldn't see him drunk Shirley took him to her flat so he could sober up, but he carried on drinking. Over the next week Shirley and Phil slept together.

Shirley has admitted to Phil that she loves him, but Phil doesn't really care about Shirley at all, just the alcohol, so Phil will stay with her, Shirley now keeps supplying booze to him, which then leads them to sleep together.
