Summary

The character of Ryan made his first apperance in EastEnders on 28 April 2009 when he is seen in the park by Shirley Carter. Shirley makes a joke that he is interested romantically in Whitney who is also at the park.He approaches Whitney and asks her if she is okay, but she runs off calling him a creep and consequentiality drops her book. He later returns the book to her after telling Todd Taylor off for bothering her. A couple of weeks later, he is in the café when Nick Cotton takes the customers dining there hostage. Ryan is a hero when he knocks Nick unconscious and thus allows all of the trapped customers to escape. Whitney becomes smitten and tells Bianca Jackson that he is a hero, but when she turns around to talk to him he has disappeared. Whitney later sees him again and asks him what he is doing in Walford, but he walks away clearly uncomfortable at the questioning.

Whithey gets a shock when her mother Debra Dean returns and tells her that a man is after her. Whithey allows her mum the hide with her under the stairs whilst the man attempts to break into the Jackson's house. Debra leaves the house in a mess and Ryan cleans up before taking a pictre of Whitney from the fridge and placing it on the table in the hallway. Whitney later demands Debra to tell her who Ryan is; and Debra admits she has something that belongs to him. They go to an abandended school to pick up the item but when they return Ryan is waiting for them. Ryan tells Whitney he is her half brother and says he killed someone in self defence, giving the knife to Debra to hide. He demands the knife from Whitney but she refuses to give it to him, saying she has hidden it, and later disposes of it in a canal.

Ryan later bumps into Ronnie Mitchell and asks Whitney about her. He later is about to leave Walford for good when he bumps into Ronnie on purpose, and helps her put on her cardigan. He decides to stay in Walford and moves in with Janine Butcher. Ronnie offers him a day's trial in the Queen Vic and when Janine makes it clear she fancies him, Ronnie makes her move ands kisses him in the cellar before having sex at Ryan's house.

Ryan and Whitney later steal Max Branning's car for a joyride, and Ryan begins stealing from Ian Beale's café and chip shop. Ryan also shows a jealous side when he sees Ronnie talking to Joel Reynolds, the father of her deceased daughter Danielle Jones and tries to question her about him. Ronnie, however, makes it clear he has no interest in him.

When Chelsea Fox win's £2,000 on a scratchcard, Ryan mugs her. Janine finds the cash and Ryan returns home and finds the cash splashed all over Janine's naked body thus she seduces him with the money and the pair have sex. Janine later tells Chelsea that it was Ryan who mugger her, so Chelsea's father Lucas Johnson physically threatens him and makes him return the money.

Ryan then chats up Stacey Slater at the Queen Victoria after she takes part in the Miss Queen Victoria competition. They sleep together. Stacey begins acting strangely again, suffering from paranoia, and loses her market stall to Ryan. Ryan is later pubically accused by Stacey of plotting to kill her with Bradley Branning's girlfriend Syd Chambers.
