Pat in the 1980s.

The oft-married Pat has been a mainstay of EastEnders since her debut as barmaid in 1986. Mother of Simon and David Wicks, Pat was originally Pete Beale’s malicious ex-wife, out to wreak revenge on his new wife, Kathy - who later became her best friend. A run-in with the “Walford Stalker” left Pat a little nicer, if not a better dresser. After reuniting with old flame Frank Butcher, Pat married him in a real “East End Wedding”, complete with Pearlies and coach. Eventually he left her bankrupt and responsible for his children Ricky and Janine, but knight-in-shining-armour Roy Evans came to her rescue. Since then, Frank has returned numerous times but, although Pat has been tempted, she and Roy remained together until his death, after which she was thrown out of her own home by stepson Barry.

Pat was back to where she started in Walford, all those years ago - living in a rented flat and working at the cafe with Laura Beale, until they both were sacked by Ian. Appalled by Janine's remorseless confession that she had murdered Barry, Pat refused to provide testimony that would have exonerated Janine for Laura's accidental death. Pat began working for Andy Hunter at the bookies and a romance seemed to be blossoming with Charlie Slater, but that quickly fizzled out. Although her counsel was not always appreciated, Pat's loyalty, honesty and devotion to her work made her a favourite of Andy's, and after his murder she discovered that he had left her his house, number 31. Now settled in and, grateful to have a home again, she re-opened the bookies after Andy's death and worked for Dennis Rickman until his demise.

Pat played hostess to the entire Mitchell clan upon their return to Walford, and recently allowed herself to be seduced by ex-husband Frank Butcher, and ended up pleading confusion as a reason for not giving false testimony against Janine. She is now apparently running the bookies for Sharon and is helping Patrick out with running his car lot. She began flirting outrageously with Patrick, which turned into a full-blown affair. The revelation of the affair took place in the Vic, and bitch-slapping ensued. Pat's house was then stretched further by the arrival of some Wickses, but the Mitchells moved out when they recovered the Vic, and Pat is now playing matriarch to her family by marriage - a branch of Wickses - Brian's nephew, Kevin, his grown-up kids, Carly and Deano; and, more recently, Kevin's girlfriend, Denise Fox, and her daughters, Chelsea and Libby.

She's now trying to hold her new-found family together in Kevin's absence, and, for some reason, interfering in Bert's life and relationship with Jay.

Her first husband Pat was Peter "Pete" Beale from 1961 until their divorce in 1966. Pete died in 1993. After Pete, Pat married Brian Wicks

Second husband by whom she had fathered Simon Wicks whilst still married to Pete. Their marriage ended in 1989 when Brian agreed to divorce Pat (so she could marry Frank) in return for a free car from Frank's lot.

In 1989, Pat married Frank Butcher, the love of her life. The two were happy playing family with Frank's kids for a while, before he had a break down after an insurance scam went wrong. He left Pat high and dry, and she eventually moved on. However, even in 2000, when they were both on their next marriage, Pat couldn't resist Frank, and they undertook an affair.

In 1996, Pat married Roy Evans, her fourth and most recent husband. The two shared several years of love and security, and even weathered her infidelity, before he suffered a fatal heart attack. Unfortunately, see as he wasn't expecting to die, he did so intestate, and his son and sole beneficiary, the devastated Barry Evans, cast her out from the family home.
