Summary
Originally a minor walk-on as the nasty manager of the run-down B&B where Janine Butcher first stayed (during her days on the game), followed by Laura Beale and Pat Evans. Minty, whose real name is 'Rick'(he got the nickname 'Minty' because he was always late for working turning up after 8 so was named after the minty sweet After Eight!), became a player in Walford upon rekindling a long-standing friendship with Phil Mitchell. Following Phil's incarceration, Minty took it upon himself to be Sam Mitchell's right hand man, never failing to give her bad advice or mishandle some dirty doing. He cared for Sam after she was dumped by Andy Hunter, but, after realising that she would never return his love, and that she was simply using him as a lackey, Minty made a break with Sam, although they remained casual friends. Minty was delighted when Phil bought the Arches back from Ian. Minty shares a swinging bachelor pad with Garry Hobbs, but seems to be seeking true love. A brief love affair with a female mechanic in 2005 went sour, and Minty is back to having only Garry for company. Minty has now assumed the mantle of wise older man, dealing out doses of wisdom to both Phil and Ben. He also had a brief fling with SJ, but she ultimately stood him up and he recently left Walford on a motorcycle to attend a World Cup match.
Shortly after his return, Garry's mother Hazel Hobbs put in an appearance. Garry was furious that his mother and his best mate were attracted to one another, so Minty and Hazel began dating in secret. Garry eventually found out about their relationship in Brighton but Minty and Hazel still refused to kill their romance. Minty found Garry's engagement ring and bent down to pick it up, however Hazel thought Minty was proposing to her and accepted! Heather Trott entered the couple into a competition in a magazine so they could win their dream wedding, and they were selected as finalists.
In January 2008, Hazel thought she was pregnant because she missed a period. However, it turned out that this was actually due to the menopause. Minty was disappointed and Hazel picked up on this and decided to leave Walford so he could find another woman to give him a child. Minty and Heather became a couple and entered and won the wedding competition. However, the wedding only lasted a few weeks as Heather caught him kissing another woman and it was at this point that Minty revealed that he only saw Heather as a friend. As the marriage was never consumated, Heather had it annuled.
In 2009, Minty bumped into old friend Manda Best whom he is now in a relationship with.
