Summary
Mel came to Walford as the sister of Rev. Alex Healy but as the local 'dish' quickly found a niche outside the rectory! Best friends with Lisa Shaw, after breaking up with Steve Owen she had a rebound relationship with Ian Beale which ended on their wedding night. When Steve was released from jail, he wooed & eventually convinced Melanie to marry him.
Although told she was owner of E20, it was in name only, and when Dan Sullivan kidnapped Melanie as revenge on Steve it proved a watershed in Melanie's life. Once ransomed, she decided to torch the E20 as pay-back for Steve's deceptions then disappeared until recently. Although she started divorce proceedings against Steve, he managed to win her yet again. Following Steve's death (caused by Phil Mitchell) Melanie reopened the Meal Machine in partnership with ex-husband Ian & wife Melanie, & attempted to reopen the E20 but when arrested for Steve's dodgy deals she jumped bail & ran to Portugal.
