Matt had a turbulent few years in Walford. Initially a sullen and sulky brat, he found a niche selling records on the market. He became engaged to Sarah Hills just so he could sleep with her (and called it off afterwards). His main claim to fame though was when he was witness to Saskia Duncan's killing, and he participated in the subsequent burial of the body in Epping Forest. He was found guilty of manslaughter in a gross miscarriage of justice, and was released at Christmas 1999. He returned to Walford intent on revenge, which culminated in a siege at Club E20 in early February 2000 reducing Steve Owen to a gibbering wreck and making Matt £10,000 richer into the bargain. Matt left the Square shortly afterwards.
