Marcus, the Mitchells' solicitor, always turned up whenever one was in trouble - he often got Phil and Grant out of trouble and was never afraid to bend the rules; he once conned Dan Sullivan into selling his share of the Queen Victoria to Phil.
He left, in December 2004, having conned Sam out of all of her, and Phil's, money, by telling her that Phil, who was on the run, needed all the money he could get. In order to raise funds, Sam sold all of the Mitchell empire - the Café and Arches to Ian, the Snooker Hall to someone unrevealed, and the Vic to Den, and gave Marcus the money. Marcus then fled Walford to start a new life abroad with all the money, leaving Sam penniless and homeless after her husband, Andy, threw her out. It was later revealed that Marcus was in on the con with Den, because he wanted to regain the Queen Vic.
