Summary

Jane's mother, who surprised her daughter by turning up in Walford for Jane's wedding to Ian Beale, who she accused of being a bad father after she heard his daughter Lucy talking to her friend Lauren Branning about strippers. She also criticised Pat's earrings at Jane's hen party, and disapproved of Ian - she liked David very much, and disapproved of Jane remarrying. Linda departed Walford as soon as the wedding started to go awry.

She returned in November 2008 unannounced, claiming that her husband Roger and she had gone on seperate holidays and that she would be staying with the Beales for a week. She was greeted in Walford by a dubious Jane and hostile Christian, who had not seen his mother since Jane and David's wedding (over 16 years), nor spoken to her for almost 20.

When an enebriated Linda tried to come on to Charlie Slater, she was forced to admit that Roger had had an affair with his nurse and kicked her out of the marital home. She had come seeking refuge with her children in Walford.

With no room for one more at the Beales, Linda packed her things to take the next flight back to Florida. Although Christian was initially averse to Linda spending another minute in Walford, Peter managed to talk him round, saying that he'd jump at the chance to see his own late mother one last time. Christian returned to the Beales' and sent the taxi away, offering his mother a room to stay in his flat. Linda's first days in the flat were spent chiding her son over his reckless lifestyle. When Christian announced he would help to bring up newborn Amy Mitchell with best friend Roxy, Linda was sceptical, sure that her son would get his heartbroken. Inevitably, when Roxy changed her mind Christian returned to his old ways - leaving Linda with no choice but to return to the Beales.

In January 2009, Linda received a letter from Roger, apologising for his behaviour and begging her forgiveness. Seeking comfort once again from copious amounts of vodka, she found company in the shape of Patrick Trueman who was also struggling with his ailing marriage to Yolande and Jane returned home to find Linda and Patrick in a compromising position. Patrick confessed to Linda he would give his marriage one more go, but Linda was resolved to forget about Roger and enjoy her new life in Walford. Ian, however, had other ideas.

Having had his fill of Linda's company, he suggested alternative accommodation for her, which Linda reluctantly accepted. However, the Beales returned home to find Linda on the living room floor, having fallen and sprained her ankle. With Jane refusing to turf her sick mother out, Ian was adamant it had all been engineered by Linda in order to stay. He took matters into his own hands and stole the letter from Roger, arranging a secret reunion.

In February 2009, Roger made a surprise arrival at the Beales'. During a lengthy heart-to-heart with his estranged wife, he managed to persuade her that his affair was over and that there was no other woman for him but Linda. While Jane and Ian were supportive of the Clarkes' reconciliation, Christian was against a reunion - insisting that it was only a matter of time before Roger broke her heart again.

In an emotional exchanged, Christian begged his mother to reconsider and offered her a place to stay with him. Linda told Christian how proud she was of him and the man he had become, but that her place was with Roger in Florida.

Linda and Roger departed Walford together on 6th February 2009, with a heartbroken Christian refusing to see them off to the airport.
