Summary
Laurie Bates added to the misery being encountered by Pete Beale following his divorce from Kathy, not only setting up a rival fruit and vegetables stall in the market, but also dating Kathy for a while. He asked Kathy out and was understanding when she couldn't be rushed after her rape ordeal. Even so, the knowledge of his other women, especially his late wife, who died of cancer, and his casual fling with Julie Cooper, annoyed Kathy. She realized that Laurie had hidden shallows; he wasn't the one to restore her faith in men. So he left Walford, bruised like a dropped apple.
