Storylines

Madeline Duggan played Lauren from 2006 to 2010.

Lauren arrived in Walford in 2006 with parents Max and Tanya Branning and younger sister Abi. She became best friends with Lucy Beale, and started dating her twin brother Peter. In late 2007 she secretly (and accidentally) filmed Max kissing her half brother Bradley's new wife Stacey. She burnt the footage onto a DVD and gave it to Bradley for Christmas, causing both Max and Bradley's marriages to break up.

She later caught the eye of local paedophile Tony King, who started grooming her. After Max ordered Peter to dump her, the two split up, and when Lauren found out what her father had done, she stole Darren Miller's car and ran her father over. After nearly letting Tanya go to prison for her, Lauren admitted that it was her who ran over Max. Lauren then moved in with her uncle Jack, then with Lucy, Peter and their family, before making the decision to go into care. She was tried for her crime and got a two year suspended sentence. She later moved back in with her parents, who reunited.

The family's happiness was short-lived when Tanya discovered that Max was in major debt, and their possessions were being repossessed. Tanya, Lauren and Oscar moved out of Walford, and later moved in with Tanya's new man Greg, while Abi stayed in Albert Square with Max. Lauren returned to Walford to break up with Peter, as they had drifted apart, and also attended Bradley's funeral. Later in the year, Max was surprised when Lauren told him she was going to America to spend the summer at a summer camp there.

Lauren returned to England sooner than expected after being thrown out of summer camp and expelled from school for taking cannabis. She had a boyfriend called Edward in America, who dumped her via video call soon after she returned home. She was later at her cousin Billie's birthday party, and egged him on to drink huge amounts of alcohol. When Billie died from alcohol poisoning, Lauren's first reaction when she found out was nervous laughter, which angered her aunt Carol. After Billie's funeral, Lauren argued with Max about Bradley, and Max revealed that he knew Bradley hadn't murdered Archie Mitchell. Lauren began to suspect that Max had killed him, but after seeing how Max and Stacey were acting around each other, she correctly guessed that Stacey was the killer. She confronted Stacey, who confessed, unaware that Lauren was recording the whole conversation on her phone. Stacey then told Lauren that Archie had raped her, and Lauren decided not to go to the police if Max promised to stay away from Stacey. When she saw them together again, she took the recording to Janine Malloy, the wife of Ryan, who had fathered Stacey's baby, Lily. Later regretting her actions, Lauren told Max that Janine had the recording, and he managed to get into her flat and delete it.

Lauren was later involved in the search for her best friend Whitney, who went missing. Lauren tracked her down to Dartford, where she was being pimped by Rob Grayson. Lauren and Janine both tried to get Whitney away from Rob, but she rejected them. A few weeks later Lauren saw Whitney being taken into the police station, and brought her home. Lauren and Whitney decided to open a market stall selling summer clothes and accessories to fund a holiday to Ibiza.
