Shortly afterwards, Jase returned to Dawn's, where he collected Jay, but was spurned by Dawn, who, along with Jay, was shown a "happy-slap" video of Jase committing hooliganism.
Jase had a brief fling with Roxy Mitchell and then went on to have a serious relationship with Dawn Swann, Jase propsed on Dawn on 6th June 2008 and she accepted. He unknowingly began working for May Wright, who planned to adopt Dawn's daughter Summer. However Dawn changed her mind about letting May adopt Summer and a gas explosion set the Miller house on fire, Jase saved Summer by catching her when she was dropped from the window.
After the fire, Jase took a mysterious phone call saying he would do one more job, with the money Dawn and Jase rented a flat. In July 2008 it was revealed that Jase had adopted Summer. Jase continued to do more work for the mysterious person, when it was revealed that Jase was working for Terry Bates again, Dawn was furious but didn't try and stop him.
On the night of Jase's stag do, he cancelled it to collect money from Terry and he reluctantly enlisted Billy Mitchell's help as a getaway driver. However when they arrived they found a note from Terry saying that the job was a set up and that they had Jase's son, Jay. Jase and Billy raced back to the flat in search of Jay, when they arrived they were greeted by Terry and the gang, instead of helping Jase, Billy hid in the bathroom. Jase was stabbed by Terry, and the next day on the day of her wedding Dawn learnt of her fiance's death.
