Summary
A family friend of the Masoods, who has a MA. This obviously made him ideal husband material for Shabnam in her mother Zainab's eyes, and so they arranged for him to come and live with the family and work at the Post Office.
Shabnam wasn't impressed at first, as she used to know him as "Jalil the Geek". He arrived, looking distinctly ungeeky and she was quite taken by him. Zainab worked on trying to get the two together by planning dinner dates (and leaving them to it), but Shabnam and Zee were annoyed to learn that he had a girlfriend already.
This didn't stop Jalil playing the field though, as he found flirting with "modern" women made good entertainment. He and Shabnam kissed at R&Rs on Roxy's birthday. But, Zainab sent him back to "his moose of a girlfriend" (her words) on learning his disrespectful attitude towards women.
