Summary
Gita was married to Sanjay and together they ran a clothing stall in the market which provided employment for (among others) Bianca Butcher and Simon Raymond. Storylines included Sanjay's gambling, infertility, unfaithfulness (Sanjay with Gita's sister Meena McKenzie, Gita with clothing rep Guppie), Gita's friendship with Cindy Beale during the attempted murder of Ian and mother-in-law problems.
Gita actually left Sanjay late in 1997 (and Sanjay was accused of her murder) but she was found in a Birmingham hospital with a new baby son, Arjun in the Summer of 1998, the crew of EastEnders having forgotten about this story for several months. Sanjay took Gita back, but a tabloid scandal appropriated by Polly Becker caused them to flee Walford in disgrace.
