Dr. Fonseca briefly appeared in late 1998 as Bianca Butcher's doctor, and during 1999 took over Dr. Legg's surgery. Dr. Fonseca was under-used as a character, and had just one big storyline - that he was gay. His flatmate, Mick McFarlane initially took this badly (not because he was gay, but because Fred hadn't told him), but eventually came to terms with this. Dr. Fonseca left Walford to go to a new practice in Islington, which interestingly is where Dr. Legg used to live in the programme!
