Summary
Bert Atkinson's estranged wife, who contacted him thirty-four years after she'd ditched him in favour of a safer, if more boring man, with the news that she was terminally ill. Evie shocked Bert with the revelation that even after such a long passage of time she still loved him, and with the news that their only child, Karen, had died of breast cancer, and that she had had a son, Jay. On her deathbed, Evie admitted to Bert that she had raised Karen with no knowledge of her biological father, and, consequently, neither she nor Jay had ever known he existed.
