Storylines
Dotty's father Nick brought her to Walford on Boxing Day 2008 to meet her grandmother, his estranged mother, Dot Branning. As usual, Nick managed to worm his way back into Dot's life, using Dotty to charm her. Eventually Dot discovered that Nick was homeless and jobless, and that he planned to put Dotty into care unless Dot bought her from him. Dot gave him the money Bradley had given her, to save Dotty from a life under his influence. Nick then left Walford.
Unknown to Dot, Dotty was in contact with Nick via a secret mobile phone, and he returned after a few months away. They plotted to kill Dot so they could cash in her life insurance policy. They tricked Dot into thinking she was suffering from dementia, and planned to give her an overdose and make it look accidental. When Dotty realised that Nick only wanted the money and not her, she put the pills in his beer instead, and in a drugged rage, he took her hostage in the café. After the café blew up, Nick disappeared and Dotty confessed all to Dot.
