A lifelong EastEnder (except for his Spanish exile), Den Watts was the original publican of the Queen Vic. He, along with wife Angie and daughter Sharon, lived above the Vic during the early years of the show. Den always had some shady deals going, & eventually got drawn too far into the Firm, leading to his (supposed) demise in 1989. Prior to that, he had fathered a daughter (Vicki) with Michelle Fowler.
After 14 years presumed dead, Den returned to Walford to be reunited with his daughters and the son he never knew (Dennis Rickman). They ran Angie's Den together and brought about the downfall of the Mitchell's, Phil in particular. The Mitchell's put up a brave fight, particularly when Sam teamed up with Andy Hunter.
Den was reunited with the woman he married in Spain, Chrissie which put a bit of a dampener on his secret affair with Kate Mitchell, especially once Chrissie became Kate's business partner in SophistiKate's! Den finally took hold of the Queen Vic again at Christmas 2004, dumping the Moons on the street in the process. Things rapidly fell apart as he learned of Sharon and Dennis' relationship, and engineered Zoe's fake pregnancy, even sleeping with her in an attempt to make it real.
But Chrissie had had enough, as had Zoe and Sam (whom he had tricked into selling the Vic), and the three of them had a showdown in the Vic with him in February 2005. He ended up dead at the hands of Chrissie and a dog-shaped doorstep and was buried under concrete in the cellar of the Vic, being discovered a few months' later.
