Storylines
Denise and her daughters Chelsea and Libby moved to Walford in May 2006, and Denise found herself attracted to local Kevin Wicks. They began dating. Her life was shaken up when her ex-husband, Libby's abusive, alcoholic father, Owen got in contact with Libby. Denise and Owen slept together, ending her relationship with Kevin, but when she expressed her regret, Owen beat her. Chelsea revealed to Denise that Owen had previously beaten her also, and Denise decided to banish hin from their lives. Following this, he became more violent, severely beating Denise and holding Kevin at knifepoint until he was arrested.
Libby then persuaded Denise to provide a positive character witness for Owen, so he was given a suspended sentence. Upon his release he kidnapped Libby, took her to a forest and tried to kill her and himself by drowning in a lake. Denise arrived just in time to save Libby, and Owen was jailed. Kevin and Denise reunited and moved in together.
Denise then disovered that there was a posibility that Patrick Trueman could be her father, after she found out he was in the same band her father was in. After growing close to Denise and the girls, Patrick pretended to be her father, but she discovered that he was lying, and forgave him. Kevin's ex-wife Shirley then arrived in Walford and revealed that he did not father her children, Carly and Deano. Following this, Kevin disappeared for several months and upon his return, slept with Shirley. Denise discovered this on her and Kevin's wedding day. After a few months of marriage, Kevin crashed in a cut-and-shut car and died in December 2007. Following his death, Denise and Carly travelled the world scattering his ashes.
Denise returned in June 2008 to find Chelsea addicted to cocaine, and in contact with her estranged father, Lucas Johnson. Denise eventually got back together with Lucas and they got engaged, only for Lucas to disappear after he employed paedophile Tony King and was shunned by locals. While he was away, he had sex with his estranged wife Trina. He returned to Walford and Trina later turned up and revealed the fling to Denise, who forgave Lucas.
On Libby's eighteenth birthday in July 2009, her grandmother Liz contacted her on behalf of Owen, who wanted to make contact with his daughter again. Seemingly a changed man, Libby tried to persuade Denise to give him a chance. She visited him in prison but still decided that she didn't want him in their lives.
