Summary
Frank was a charmer with a rather unfortunate habit of ruining women's lives. His second marriage, to long-time secret love Pat, was marred by Frank going into heavy debt, which led to him running away from Walford, and having a son, Danny, by a young girl, Marlene, up in Manchester, where his business was based. Frank returned to Walford in 1998 and fell for Peggy Mitchell, marrying her in 1999. Things seemed rosy until Frank, Peggy, Pat, Roy, Terry Raymond and Irene went on holiday to Portugal together in the summer of 2000.
While on holiday Frank confessed to Pat that he still loved her, and the two slept together. The affair continued on their return to the UK, and, when Peggy found out, on Bonfire Night 2000, she threw him out, and he left the Square again, with neither Pat nor daughter Janine. Following this, in 2001 it was revealed that Frank was living in the Costa del Sol, Spain, and running dodgy time-share deals. To escape creditors, he faked his death; it was his erstwhile funeral that brought Peggy Mitchell to Spain, and a final reunion with Frank.
He briefly re-appeared in 2006, for Janine's trial, when he seduced widow Pat into providing Janine with an alibi for the death of Laura Beale. He left promptly thereafter.
After Mike Reid died in 2007, the BBC decided to kill off the character of Frank Butcher and after a special set of episodes dubbed "Frank Week", his funeral was screened in April 2008.
