Summary
The original EastEnder, Arthur was introduced to us as the unemployed and henpecked husband of Pauline, as well as father of wayward Mark and Michelle. Through various storylines including mental illness, theft of the Christmas Club money (to pay for Michelle's cancelled wedding to Lofty), an affair with Mrs. Hewitt and false imprisonment for embezzlement, Arthur remained the lynchpin of Walford. To this day a bench stands in the Square with the inscription Arthur Fowler: he loved this place.
