Ali owned the Cafe on Bridge Street with his wife Sue. The ongoing story-line involved cultural conflict between British Sue & Turkish Ali & family. After first baby Hassan died of crib death, Ali & his reprobate brother Mehmet became heavy gamblers & also opened the Square's first cabbie company (out of the Café). Eventually Sue became pregnant again, but soon after the baby's birth she became so despondent that Ali had her committed to a mental institution! Soon after, he left Walford along with his numerous relations.
