Summary
The ex-Landlord of The Queen Vic, Alfie got the job on a fluke: the real barman Chris Wright was late and Peggy thought Alfie was he! Fresh out of prison and always on the make, Alfie quickly took advantage of the mistake, only to discover he liked Peggy, the locals and the benefits of the job. Alfie brought his younger brother (Spencer) and his Gran to live in the flat above the Vic. There were problems at first with ex-policeman Dougie Slade; Dougie tried to blackmail Alfie, but that all ended well with Peggy discovering Alfie's secrets and keeping him on anyhow.
He and Kat had (after a year of will they/won't they) settled down to married life, which was cut short by Andy forcing Kat to sleep with him, which she did out of her belief that it would save Alfie's life (Alfie owed Andy money). Alfie was unable to accept this and Kat left him. During her absence, his friendship with Little Mo turned to romance. Kat returned, and Alfie was unable to decide between the sisters. This tedious storyline finally culminated in his exposure, and he was for a time an outcast in the eyes of the Slaters and Billy Mitchell. Alfie spent the last of his time in Walford with his dying Nana, helping her fulfil her wish list. After her death, he departed Walford, taking Kat with him.
