Summary

The youngest daughter of Max and Tanya Branning, she moved to Walford in 2006 with her parents and sister Lauren. Animal-mad Abi has had many pets: her pet rat, Rolf, died in February 2007, and was replaced with guinea pig Marge. When Marge went missing, her brother Bradley bought her an identical guinea pig, who she named Marge 2, and when the original Marge returned, the Marges multiplied. Marge has since died, and Marge 2 was given to Abi's best friend, Ben Mitchell. The guinea pigs were replaced by a chinchilla called Gilbert, who Abi then gave to a friend. Abi then adopted Danielle Jones's cat, Musty, who she later had to give to her friend (and part-time nemesis) Bernadette Logan. Abi has expressed a desire to become a vet.

Soon after she moved to Walford, Max forgot to pick Abi up from school as he was with Stacey Slater. As she walked home, Abi was hit by Deano Wicks's car and sustained a broken wrist. She became friends with Ben Mitchell and encouraged him to put an end to his abuse by Stella Crawford. Abi was allowed to name her baby brother when Tanya gave birth in 2007 - she chose the name Oscar. When Max and Stacey's affair was revealed at Christmas 2007, Abi was the least angry at Max, having always been a real daddy's girl. She seemed to blame Tanya when her parents' marriage broke down, and attacked Lauren after Lauren ran Max over in a stolen car. Abi has always stayed loyal to Max and lived with him while Lauren and Oscar have lived with Tanya and Greg. Abi started a relationship with Jordan Johnson, but they ended it after Jordan's father Lucas was arrested for murder, and Abi developed feelings for the Brannings' new lodger Darren Miller. Abi became frustrated that Max still treated her like a child when Max's new girlfriend Vanessa gave her a make-over. After Darren got engaged to Jodie Gold, Abi transferred her affections to Jay Mitchell. They started dating, and Abi began to feel pressured to sleep with him, worrying that Jay would dumo her for someone older. Jay told her that she didn't have to do anything she didn't want. After rowing with Max about Jay on the morning of Tanya and Greg's wedding, Abi and Max were involved in a car accident. Following this, Abi and Jay helped Ben stand up to bully Nathan Clayton.
